Accessibility Statement

MazeCrafts Labs, Inc. wants every family and every classroom to be able to use our website, our learning portal and our physical kits. This statement describes what we have done, what we know is still imperfect, and how to tell us when we get it wrong.

1. Our commitment

Accessibility is part of how we build, not a remediation project bolted on afterwards. Design reviews include keyboard and screen-reader walkthroughs. Engineering pull requests that touch interactive components require an accessibility note. Kit design reviews include a tactile and low-vision pass. We fund this work from the product budget rather than a separate one, which is the only way it survives a busy quarter.

2. Conformance status

We measure mazecrafts.com and the MazeCrafts learning portal against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2, level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium.

Conformance status: partially conformant. Partially conformant means that most of the content meets WCAG 2.2 level AA, but some parts do not yet fully conform. The known exceptions are listed with dates in section five, and each has an owner and a target date.

We also work toward the requirements of Section 508 of the United States Rehabilitation Act and take account of EN 301 549 for European educational buyers who ask for it. 3. Measures we take

• Semantic structure. Pages use real headings in order, landmarks, lists and tables with header cells, so structure is navigable without sight.
• Keyboard first. Every interactive control is reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus ring that meets the focus-appearance criterion, a skip-to-content link, and no keyboard traps in menus, dialogs or the video player.
• Contrast and type. Body text meets or exceeds a contrast ratio of 4.5 to 1, large text and interface components meet 3 to 1, and text is never rendered as an image. Layouts reflow to a single column at 320 pixels and remain usable at 200 percent zoom and 400 percent text scaling.
• Text alternatives. Every meaningful image has an alt description written by a person, decorative images are hidden from assistive technology, and complex maze diagrams have a longer text description plus a step-by-step list of the solution path.
• Media. Build videos have accurate human-reviewed captions, an audio-described track where hand positions matter, and a full transcript on the same page.
• Forms. Labels are visible and programmatically associated, errors are described in text next to the field and summarised at the top, required fields are marked in text, and the checkout never relies on colour alone.
• Motion and timing. Animation respects the reduced-motion preference, nothing flashes, carousels have pause controls, and no session times out without a warning and an extension.
• Documents. Printable packs are tagged PDFs with a reading order, document language and a text layer, and each pack also ships as an HTML version for screen-reader users.

4. Assistive technology testing

We test with real assistive technology on a quarterly cycle and before any significant release. Our current test matrix is:

Automated checks with axe-core run on every build and block a deploy on new violations, but we treat automation as a smoke test rather than a verdict. Manual testing finds the problems that matter.

5. Known limitations

We would rather publish our gaps than imply perfection. Each item below has an owner and a target date, and this table is reviewed monthly.

6. Accessibility of the physical kits

A website that reads beautifully is little use if the box is unusable. Our kits include the following accommodations as standard:

• High-contrast panels. Every maze panel is available in a high-contrast finish, dark walnut paths against pale birch, measured to at least 4.5 to 1 luminance contrast so the route is discernible with low vision.
• Tactile paths. Wall edges are chamfered and path floors are lightly textured, so a route can be followed by fingertip alone. Dead ends are marked with a raised dot and junctions with a raised bar.
• Large-print instructions. Every kit includes an 18-point large-print instruction sheet alongside the standard sheet, at no extra cost, and the portal offers a 24-point printable version.
• Braille label add-on. A free braille label set, in Unified English Braille, covers part numbers, panel names and the step numbers on the instruction sheet. Add it at checkout or request it later at [email protected] and we will post it for any kit you already own.
• Grip and force. Ages 8 and up parts press-fit with light force. Where a kit normally needs a firm push, we supply a lever tool. Screwdriver handles are wide-barrel for reduced grip strength.
• Quiet build option. Sanding-free variants of every ages 5 and up and ages 8 and up kit are available for children sensitive to noise, dust or texture; ask and we will substitute pre-finished parts at no charge.

7. Assessment approach

This statement was prepared in January 2026 following a combined self-evaluation and external review. Our internal team completed a full WCAG 2.2 level AA audit of every page template and portal flow in December 2025. An independent accessibility consultancy reviewed the checkout, the portal and the video player in January 2026 and their findings are reflected in section five. Physical kit accommodations were reviewed with two Portland-area teachers of the visually impaired.

8. Feedback and our response commitment

If you meet a barrier anywhere in our site, our portal, our documents or our kits, please tell us. Include the page address or kit name, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology and browser you were using if you know them. That detail turns a report into a fix.

We reply to every accessibility report within five business days with an acknowledgement, our assessment, and either a fix date or an interim workaround. Where a fix will take longer than one release cycle, we tell you the target date and add the item to the table in section five so the commitment is public. If you need content in another format, large print, tagged PDF, plain HTML, braille or audio, we will supply it free within ten business days.

9. Formal complaints

If our response does not resolve the problem, ask for escalation and your report goes to our Head of Product, who responds in writing within ten business days with a decision and reasoning. Unresolved complaints may be taken to the appropriate enforcement body in your jurisdiction, including the United States Department of Justice for claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act, or a state or provincial human rights body. We will cooperate fully with any such review and will never require you to waive a right in order to receive support.
